Practice together
Sukkot: practice joyful hospitality
A Christian practice for receiving the biblical themes of dwelling, provision, joy, and welcome during Sukkot while honoring living Jewish observance.
Shared rhythm
Begin with what you can practice together.
Thank God for shelter and provision, spend some time outdoors if practical, and welcome someone with food, conversation, and joy.
- Read Leviticus 23:39-43 and notice the commands to Israel concerning remembrance and rejoicing.
- Share food outdoors or near an open window if practical and thank God for shelter and daily provision.
- Invite or include someone who would benefit from welcome, conversation, or a place at the table.

Receive the season with gratitude
Leviticus gives Israel specific commands for Sukkot. Christians can read those Scriptures, honor the living Jewish context, and receive the themes of provision, joy, remembrance, and welcome.
A simple meal outdoors can help a household notice how dependent we are on God’s daily care. It does not need to imitate a sukkah observance to be meaningful.
For the wider biblical and New Testament context, read the Sukkot / Feast of Tabernacles guide . Sukkot falls in Tishrei, a month that moves from wakefulness and repentance into mercy, rejoicing, and dwelling with God.
